Ding-Dong, Delos! Continuing our choral Christmas theme, we’d like to highlight four of our highly acclaimed albums that come courtesy of two respected American church choirs. The emphasis here is, of course, on sacred choral music … what Christian church in America doesn’t dust off a bunch of cherished seasonal carols and anthems at this time of year – with occasional novelties thrown in? Delos’ “workhorse” church ensemble is Denver’s famous St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral Choir – a group that sticks largely to the Anglican tradition. Of their three “Sing We” series, only Sing We Noel (DE 3128) consists entirely of Christmas music … but the other two (see below) also include selections suitable for the season, among pieces for other periods of the liturgical year. Then there’s the choir of Portland’s Trinity Episcopal Church: another most excellent ensemble whose Christmas release will go far to make your holidays merry and bright! Check them all out below …
